Benjamin J. Rosten is a Sydney-based pianist and keyboardist with more than 45 years of live performance and over 30 years of teaching. Known for his lyrical touch and balance of classical discipline with jazz spontaneity, he has graced major venues including the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Town Hall, and Intercontinental Sydney. His versatility has taken him across Australia’s festival stages, with acclaimed performances at the Manly Jazz Festival, the Dubbo Jazz Festival, and the Port Macquarie Jazz Festival.
Rosten’s musical foundation was built at the Conservatorium High School under Judy Bailey and further shaped by studies with Margaret Hair, Joshua Tsai, Mike Nock, Roger Frampton, and Craig Scott. He also performed trombone in the Conservatorium Orchestra, broadening his ensemble voice. A passionate educator, he has taught piano, theory, and musicianship for three decades, weaving faith and artistry into his teaching. With influences ranging from Oscar Peterson to Chick Corea, Rosten’s music remains heartfelt, inventive, and deeply human.
