City Speak
City Speak is a punk rock band from Mainz/Wiesbaden, Germany. Founded during lockdown in 2021 by Anna (Black Square, ex-Skinpin) and Corni (ex-Black Lining, Keep It A Secret Records), their lineup is now complete with new guitarist Doni. The band’s debut record, “Holding Water”, is was released on LP/CD/DG via Shield Recordings (NL), Snappy Little Numbers (US), Cat’s Claw Records (UK) and Keep it a Secret Records (Germany) on August 22nd, 2024.
Thematically City Speak prefers to stick to light fare (patriarchy, obedience to authority, exploitation by multinational corporations), but still manage to pose the seriously important questions (pineapple on pizza – yes or no?). They put all of that into songs that sound like “’77 punk with a bit of TSOL” (Torben Müller, musicologist) and this first album documents those concepts.
